Hybrid is a program for converting video formats (MPEG2, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC. H.265 HEVC)

To avoid working from the command line all the time, programmers develop programs with a graphical interface.
To convert video, a Hybrid program has been developed, which is free for any use (Freeware).
Website:https://www.selur.de/. The program runs on Linux/Windows/Mac (non-ARM).

Hybrid Features

*Sound options*: adjusting volume, normalizing sound, applying effects.
Batch Processing: Convert multiple files at once.
Codecs: Supports multiple codecs.
Command line: Command line support for automation.
Convert video and audio files: Hybrid converts video and audio files to a wide range of formats.
Filter management: Customizable filters and effects. For example, 3D noise removal.
Format support: Supports almost all popular and unusual formats.
Hardware acceleration: Use GPU for faster processing.
Profile management: Create, save and manage profiles.
Quality: High quality output with minimal loss.
Speed: Conversion speed is adjustable.
Subtitle support: Add subtitle files to videos.
Tools: Includes tools for advanced operations.
User Interface**: Clear, intuitive and modern user interface.
*Video editing: Includes advanced video editing capabilities.

Program Hybrid intended for experienced users. It is not intended to be a tool used by everyone. If you are not familiar with the basics of containers, video formats, etc., Hybrid is not for you.

Hybrid technical capabilities

  • tag support for avi/mkv/mp4/mov
  • chapter support for mkv/mp4/blu-ray
  • support for subtitles for mkv/mp4/blu-ray
  • separate audio, video, filter and combined a/v profiles
  • built-in bitrate calculator
  • accepts raw VC-1, AVC, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 ASP input files
  • manual and automatic creation and passage of chapters
  • ability to encode individual titles/chapters
  • job/queue based processing system
  • encoding audio formats AAC/MP3/AC-3/Vorbis/Opus/FLAC/DTS/PCM/EAC-3 using dcaenc/MEncoder/FFmpeg/Aften and various AAC encoders
  • supported AAC encoders: qaac, FDK AAC, faac, fhg, neroaacenc
  • basic filtering using FFmpeg
  • supported video output formats: MPEG-4 ASP (Xvid), MPEG-4 AVC (x264, qsvencc, nvencc, vceencc, ffmpeg nvenc), VP8/VP9 (vpxenc), ProRes (ffmpeg), MPEG-4 HEVC (x265, kvazaar, DivX265, nvencc, qsvencc, vceencc, ffmpeg nvenc), FFV1 (ffmpeg), UT-video (ffmpeg), FFvHuff (ffmpeg), AV-1 (aomenc, rav1e)
  • supported audio output formats: dts, ac3, ogg vorbis, mp3, aac, flac, pcm, opus, pass-through
  • supported containers: mov/mp4/mkv/m2ts/webm/avi, Blu-ray or AVCHD structure
  • audio/video transfer -> can be used to combine video and audio into one file (multiplexing), create labels for videos (tagging), edit chapters
  • many options for automating actions.

Download from developer site

https://www.selur.de/downloads

For Linux, download the full version with tools and dependencies: "Hybrid Linux64bit (with base tools and most dependencies)".
The 7z archive needs to be unpacked into your home folder, preserving the directory structure. Since the archive contains a hybrid folder, the same folder will also be created in the home directory.

Launch

Simply double-click on the Hybrid executable file.
hybrid1

Hybrid main window

hybrid-main

At the top of the window there are tabs for setting up (configuring) the program.
At the bottom of the window there is a work log and a start button (on the right).

Configuration

For regular videos (longer than 10 minutes), no configuration is required.
If you have video clips (chapters) shorter than 10 minutes, you need to configure

On the bookmark "Config - Input"

input
and change the limits as follows
1 / 1
1/100
1/100

Configuring the source, video and audio codec, container type.

hybrid2
After launch. On the first tab of the program, select:

  1. Container mp4 or mkv
  2. Choose original file or folder VIDEO_TS
  3. Specify the codec in Processing(processing):
*x264*- for video, select x264 encoding
paththrough all**- for sound - without conversion ("as is") or mp3
    1. If direct encoding from DVD is used, check the box DVD input dvdvideo
  4. We indicate destination folder and file name result recoding.
    1. To start coding, click on the symbol "man at work".man-at-work

By default, encoding at a 1500 Mbps rate is performed in two passes using the x264 codec. To change the encoding method, see tab #2 "x264". For example, with Constant Quantitizer = 20, the average stream speed is 1800 kbps, and with CQ = 18, the speed is 2500 kbps.

Note: for movies shorter than 10 minutes, an error message will appear when selecting the DVD folder
"Error. Title selection, returned no title" -
To do this, follow step 1.
-> No valid titles left,..
Title selection, returned no title!"

The program perceives a short chapter as a “dummy” or screensaver. Therefore, the chapter deletion message is less than 600 seconds long.

Solution: configure the limits as written in paragraph "Configuration".

Advanced encoding settings - tab No. 2

On tab No. 2 you can select a video encoding algorithm.
The simplest one is Constant Quantitator, which we choose

  1. Algorithm - Constant Quantitatizer
  2. Algorithm strength - 20 (the higher, the greater the compression ratio)
  3. Processing depth in "Preset" e.g. Fast or Medium

For the algorithm average bitrate (default)
hybrid5

  1. Select the item "Specific filesize/bitrate 2 pass"
  2. Specify the bitrate
  3. Processing depth in "Preset" e.g. Fast or Medium

Instead of stream we can specify output file size limit(remember that the CD-R capacity is 700 MB):
hybrid6

  1. Select "Target size (MiB)" and in the parameters, instead of bitrate, indicate the desired size in MiB.
Where 1 MebiByte (MiB or MiB) = 220 bytes = 1,048,576 bytes bytes. The CD-R capacity is 702 MB or 736,966,656 bytes or 702.82 MiB.

I will not consider the remaining bookmarks. For example, on the 4th tab on the child tab there is basic filtering (noise removal) of the video.

Start processing, as mentioned above - by clicking on the person icon in the lower right corner on tab No. 1.
man-at-work

The program begins processing the DVD and saving it to the output file:
processing

At the end of processing, the strip will reach the end and a message will be displayed in the window:

job....finished!
