WSJT-X vs WSJT-X_Improved - Part 1

19 April 2024 15:30

Comparison of versions from Joe Taylor K1JT and WSJT-X_Improved from Uwe DG2YCB. Part 1.
See also: Part 2.

The WSJT-X application for conducting radio communications in the JT-65, FT-8, and FT-4 digital modes was developed by radio amateur Joe Taylor K1JT of Princeton University. The latest release of this program is WSJTX 2.6.1, and version 2.5.4 is available in the Linux Mint repositories. The program supports seven slow digital modulation types (FST4, FT4, FT8, JT4, JT9, JT65, and Q65), a fast mode for VHF meteors (MSK144), modes for beacons, and digital modes (FST4W and WSPR) for radio propagation research, a function for detecting lunar echoes (for VHF EME), and FreqCall. The program is most often used for conducting radio communications in the FT4, FT8, JT4, JT9, and JT65 modes.

Recently, I found that the WSJT-X program received a modification with advanced capabilities. Its author UWE DG2YCB lives in Germany. A program called WSJT-X Improved ("improved") is located on the page https: // sourceforge.net/projects/wsjt-x-improved/. UWE also supports as a developer the source version of WSJT-X in cooperation with JOE Taylor. Therefore, these two programs develop in parallel.

Uwe DG2YCB also developed a modification of another program - JTDX also with the prefix "improved": jtdx-improved and a library for RTL-SDR devices for PowerSDR software ExtIO_RTLTCP_improved, which I will not discuss here.

In this article I will try to understand only one program WSJT-X_Improved in comparison with WSJT-X, by studying the changes to the version that are published on the official website of WSJT-X_Improved.

Fetal point - Official version of WSJTX

If you download version 2.7.0rc4 https://sourceforge.net/projects/wsjt/files/wsjtx-2.6.1/And install it on a PC, it looks as follows:

Changes in WSJT-X 2.7.0-RC4:

  • implemented MSK144 decoding (for "meteor" radio communications) using the external executable file JT9 .
  • improvement control of the call sign using short (10-bit) hashes

Changes in WSJT-X 2.7.0-RC3:

  • The program displays the used version of the library h to the screenamLIB (to control transceivers)

  • Improved work FT Roundups for competition messages: the ability to exchange static 4-digit numbers instead of consecutive numbers

  • Improvement has been improved between therapy. The condition of the flags "SH." And “Fast” is now preserved and recovered according to the regime.

  • Added processing of the right mouse button, which switches the modes JT65 and JT9: Click with the right mouse button on the JT65 button to switch to the JT9 mode.

  • Lotw downloading the file now works without OpenSSL libraries.

  • The spot meter in the beacons of WSPR is implemented.

  • The insert of the name of the FOX mode is prevented.

  • Added the service program "Cablog», which can be used to convert wsjtx.log to Cabrillo format.

  • Small improvements in the “Active Stations” window.

  • The RX/TX frequency for the "echo" mode is recorded at 1,500 Hz.

  • some corrections and updates of installation instructions for Linux.

  • updated the CTY.DAT file.

    Changes in WSJT-X 2.7.0-RC2:

  • Pressing Ctrl+Shift+F11/F12 now changes the frequency of 1000 Hz instead of 2000 Hz.

  • Fixed an error with the time of the beginning of QSO. Now it is dumped with a change in DX-calling.

  • again the modes with switching WSPR range to study WSPR and FST4W Band Hopping work

  • Fixed the problem with duplication of FT8 records in the Active Station window.

    Changes in WSJT-X 2.7.0-RC1:

Features of WSJT-X Improved compared to WSJT-X

The description of the changes is posted at the end of the page https://sourceforge.net/projects/wsjt-x-improved ... v2.7.1/Linux/

version 2.7.1 Improved has the following differences compared to WSJT-X 2.7.0

1) in wsjt-x improved The full duplex mode has been implemented: the program allows, with the support of several transceivers / sound cards / audio redirection, to carry out reception and transmission at the same time, that is, simultaneously (FDM - full duplex mode).
2) the full duplex mode works both in slow modes (FT8, FT4, Q65, etc.) and in the fast MSK144.
3) Autoseq made several modifications to prevent ties with its own call sign.
4) Your own messages are distinguished in the “group activity” window with the color that you have chosen for the “transmitted message”.
5) Free-free FT8 frequencies with ranging jumps (Band Happing) for communication with DX expeditions:

  • Several operators asked to implement this opportunity.
  • Now the user can independently determine up to 8 FT8 frequencies using QRG input from the keyboard.
  • The default frequencies when added by default are installed on standard QRG DX expeditions.
  • But now you can also introduce any frequency, and it is remembered, so you can track, for example, the local QRG or DX expedition using other frequencies, or the like.
    6) Additional functions in JT65, JT9, JT4 modes (whose messages consist of 75-bit):
  • The introduction of Autoseq sequences is also in JT65, JT9 and JT4, so now these modes can be controlled (almost) as easily as 77-bit modes (FT8, FT4, MSK144, Q65, FST4).
  • DX waiting functions and call sign filters now also work for JT65, JT9 and JT4.
  • Also for these modes are now operating CQ: FIrst, CQ: MaxDist, CQ: MaX DB and CQ: min DB.
  • This makes the “good old” JT9 mode for DX, since it is more than 3 dB more sensitive than FT8, and is also very effective in frequency.
    7) the protection of the transceiver from failure at SWR>2.5 is automatically triggered by h.alt TX. The program also now displays output power in real time. It works with most modern devices. Important: Your transceiver must be connected either via one of the hamLIB drivers or via FLRIG.
    8) the group of buttons of the bands of the frequency ranges is implemented (included in the "Show" menu)
    9) pressing the range button makes the program search in the frequency of ranges /default frequency tables. Users can determine these QRG frequencies by default on their own. Just install the “preferred” flags in the “Settings”/“frequency” section in accordance with your needs.
    10) Clicking with the right button to the mouse buttons will lead you directly to the main frequencies of DX expedition in FT8 mode (or to the intercontinental QRG in the 6 meters range)
11)In the latest version hamlib, Automatic Antenna Tuner (ATU) on/off status is now remembered for each band YAESU FT-991. It is very useful along with the new buttons of the group of ranges!.
    12) As in the case of the buttons of the ranges, static flags band Hopping for FT8, FT4 and MSK144 now also get their frequencies from the list "Settings/Frequencies". The advantage of this is that you can independently determine which QRG (frequencies) should be crossed. Useful for competitions or in the presence of local frequencies (for example, 160 m in Japan).
    13) a new option for automatic removal of saved audio files in 30 days. It can be activated in the "Save" menu and it helps to maintain the total amount of saved data within reasonable limits.
    14) Additional filter features:
  • All fast filters are now available through the new menu “Filters” (the main difference from the classic WSJT-X).
  • The new list of ignoring allows you to either allocate undesirable stations, ignore them using CQ: XYZ, WAIT & POUNCE and BEST S+P, or completely hide them. Click the new one
  • The “ignore” button to add the station to the list. You can delete a list of ignoring using the new entry “Wipe the List of Ignoring” in the “File” menu.
  • It has been expanded to "highlight the call sign, who worked today" on "... worked today or yesterday." This is better for competitions or for time zones, where 00:00 UTC is not at midnight, but somewhere in the middle of the day. And for such stations, the same three options are now available as for a list of ignoring: to allocate, ignore or hide the stations that worked today or yesterday.
    15) The new "kHz without k" checkbox allows you to set the frequency shift in kHz without the "k" suffix via the band selection field. EME enthusiasts can now, for example, directly enter something like “250”, press the Return key, and this will lead them to the XXXX, 250 MHz instead of 250 MHz.
    16) default frequencies for FT8, FT4 and MSK144 modes are now also being sought in the “Work Frequency” table in the “Settings/Frequency” section and, thus, can be redirected by the user.
    17) The same applies to the range of 60 meters (for the United States) - the exact frequency at the transition of 60 m is taken in the frequency table.
    18) In the dialog for adding QSO to the hardware magazine, the OK button is now installed by default.
    19) Improved winding when changing the bands: when turning on the function "clean the activity window after changing the band (erase band Activity window after band change").
    20) text "Watchtower Runaway TX” is now displayed in the lower left corner until the next press or keys, and readability is improved.
    21) while saving Adif to the hardware magazine, field is written only if it is filled. This is necessary for some types of confesses (for example, in which an amateur radio must move from a square to a square - a translator note)
    22) Click by the right button on the “Switching along the range” button now plays a sound file to check the sound notification through the second sound card.

version 2.7.0 Improved has the following differences compared to WSJT-X 2.6

1) Windows has the ability to download and update the library hamLib via the Internet (new feature) "Update HamLIB").
2) the program now displays the version h usedamlib (в Linux, Windows и maCOS).
3) FT Roundup Messages protocol was improved. Now it also allows you to exchange static 4-digit numbers instead of consecutive numbers. This expands the possibilities of using the FT RU protocol for other types of competitions.
4) Improvement is improved between modes. We will cut, as well as the state of the flags “SH” and “Fast” are now preserved and restored according to the regime.
5) Some events click with the right button of the mouse have become more intuitive and consistent.

  • Right-clicking the Q65 button switches to Q65 Pileup mode, and left-clicking returns to normal Q65 mode.
  • Right-clicking the JT65 button switches to JT9 mode.6) For Q65, all messages are now displayed in the right window.
    7) Messages are now allowed only with the VHF functions included, and the texts of the tags change to “decoding of one period” and “average decoding” only if the averaging is included.
    8) some improvements in the transceiver code HamLib. The behavior is now more stable if the separation of Rig Split is selected (when using two transceivers - the translator note).
    9) an excessive exchange of data WSJT-X and DX L has been preventedab Suite Commander.
    10) Lotwo loading the Lotw now operates without OpenSSL libraries.
    11) I earned a spot counter for WSPR.
    12) The insertion of a separate name of the competition in a special activity mode "Fox" is prevented.
    13) WAE objects are now assigned to the correct DXCC, if the parameter “enable additional WAE objects” is not selected.
    14) Added service program Cablog, which can be used to convert the wsjtx.log file to Cabrillo format for the ARRL EME contest.
    15) Small improvements were made in the “Active Stations” window.
    16) The RX/TX frequency for the “Echo” mode (for EME) is recorded at 1,500 Hz.
    17) Some corrections and updates of installation instructions for Linux.
    18) updated file CTY.DAT.

In the update on August 1, 2023 to version 2.7.0-rc2 as in the version Improved and in wsjt-x improved FT8 decoding (do not wait for miracles, 1-2 additional decoding of stations for the period) will be added).

Other improvements:
1) a new option that allows you to make an indicator in red during the transmission. This function is turned on by default, but you can disable it in the “Settings”> “Basic” by installing a new checkbox “Make an indicator of red during transmission”.
2) The protocol FT Roundup Messages has been improved. You can now exchange fixed 4-digit numbers instead of sequential QSO numbers. This will allow for a whole new range of contests and QSO activities in the future ("QSO parties"). For example, a four-digit number can indicate the designation Pota, Cota, Sota, district or something else.
Note: This enhancement will also be available for the original WSJT-X with version 2.7.0-rc3.
3) A new opportunity to freeze the TX5 text, clicking the TX5 button by right -click. It is useful when some additional information (for example, “73 FF4156”) should be transmitted in the form of a text message. Important: Any TX5 message must contain the figure “73”.
4) Empty lines between periods of decoding are now suppressed when filters are included and there are no other decoders, except for filtered ones.
5) The DX square is now also released in the text of the messages if the text field of the DX grid contains a 6-digit locator.

version 2.7.0 Release Candidate 2 dated July 07, 2023 contains correction of errors of version 2.6.0:
This and subsequent versions contain changes exclusive for WSJT-X_Improved:
1) Expanded filter parameters:

  • You can now hide up to 4 DXCC countries. Specify the territories in "Settings" > "Filters," after which you can enable/disable these new filters directly from the "View" menu in the main program window.
  • New option to hide specific continents. These checkboxes are also available from the "View" menu in the main program window, so you can quickly disable or enable them.
  • New option to hide callsigns previously used on the band (Worked B4).
  • The transmit status label (bottom left) now displays different label text and a different color: if any filters are enabled that prevent all decodes from being displayed, the label text will change from "Receiving" to "Receiving, filters enabled," and the background color will change from green to blue.
    2) WSJT-X_Improved can now highlight individual callsigns or grids according to your requirements. Callsigns and/or grids can be highlighted with an orange or blue background. Callsigns/nets should be separated by a comma and can be mixed with squares (for example, “K1jt, DG2YCB, JO33, JN58”). Important: after each call sign (i.e., also at the end of the line) there should be a comma.
    3) The built -in discharge function now has two different color schemes by default.
  • You can choose between the WSJT-X color scheme by default or the one I use in my own versions of WSJT-X_Improved. Just go to the “Settings” -> “Colors” and click one of the two “reset” buttons.
    4) some improvements in reducing false decoders.
    5) CQ: MAX DIST condition is now working better. If no station meets the requirements for the square (i.e. TX1), now the station sending TX2 is also selected. However, any response TX1 is preferable, since the current square is required to calculate the distance.
    6) a new option for freezing the condition of the TX EVEN/1ST flag (for example, useful for SO2R). Just set the correct condition and click the flag with the right mouse button. Click the FT8 or MSK button with the right mouse button to defrost.
    7) update to hamlib 4.6_2023-06-28, which works much faster than all previous versions of hamLIB, at least in Windows.

Correction of errors in version 2.6.0 - Hotfix dated May 19, 2023: (relevant for a regular WSJTX and WSJTX_Improved):

1) Reduced version hamLIB until 4.5.5, which, as we hope, will correct the recent problems with some ICOM transceivers.
2) standby and throw mode ("wait and pounce") For DX hunting, call CQ with CQ: Max Dist or CQ Max, DB or CQ enabled. Min DB should now work better. In the algorithms of these functions there were some inconsistencies.
3) when turning on CQ: Max Dist или CQ: Max, db или CQ: Min dB запись DX CaLL is no longer cleaned after QSO, because with my new code there is no longer necessary in it.
4) some improvements in the allocation of callsigns for slow modes (for example, MSK144).
5) Strg + alt + F11/F12 now moves the frequency + -1000 Hz instead of 2 kHz.

Issue WSJT-X 2.7.0 Release CandidaTE 1 compared to 2.6.0 in WSJT-X, the developer added the following improvements:

1) a new program called QMAP, a new special operating room, known as Q65 Pileup, as well as a number of other improvements and corrections. The QMAP and Q65 Pileup mode are of particular interest to those who are engaged in the ligament of the Earth-Luna-Earth (EME), but for them you can find other applications.
2) WSJT-X now provides a more efficient publication of spots on PSK Reporter. Excessive data is excluded, and their placement now spreads more widely in time.
3) WSJT-X can now process more than 100 FT8 decoders in one reception interval.
4) improvements in FOX mode: more convenient and effective management of two bursts. In the window of Fox magazine, statistics are now displayed on the QSO pace.
5) when changing the location of the station (for example, while moving the station from one square to another /p or /m), the new locator will be automatically sent to PSKreporter.
6) The CTY.DAT file can now be updated by clicking the Settings button -> Color tab.
7) Upon receipt of the new Lotw file, a new condition is displayed.
8) multi-flow messages transmitted by MSHV are now processed correctly when WSJT-X is in HOUND mode.
9) QSO auto -consuming now has the best protection against undesirable effects caused by the FT8 late decoding.
10) inconsistency was corrected, due to which the name of the competition was remembered incorrectly.
11) other small errors.
12) Updated hyperlinks on our home page and to our new WSJT Group users forum(https://groups.io/g/wsjtgroup/)Now you can also find in the user manual.

Changes inherent exclusively WSJT-X Improved in version "WSJT-X 2.7.0 Release Candidate 1"

1) a new mode is presented "Wait and Pounce"(i.e., automation "in ambush" - translator's note). This allows you to respond to incoming CQ messages from other stations based on certain criteria. (Max Dist, Max db, Min db), and can also be combined with filters. Click with the right mouse button button “Allow the transmission” to activate the function “Wait and Pounce”. The button “Allow the transmission” will become orange.
2) more opportunities for Filters, as well as the best and quick algorithm for their use:

  • Now you have 3 types of filters (“black list”, “white list”, “always skip”) and there is a new opportunity to use them only for “ambush” Wait aND Pounce.
  • A new opportunity to use the “white list” and “always skip” ** only to the first 4 symbols of the second word of messages (usually a prefixing station).
  • Filters can now be used for quick modes (for example, MSK144).
    3) Selection DX Call/GrID now works for quick modes (for example, MSK144).
    4) Improved algorithm of the CQ. It now works very well, both when calling CQ and when using it with the new Wait and Pounce feature.
    5) various improvements in the code to accelerate work.
    6) update to hamLIB 4.6_2023-05-05.

Note: In connection with the politically unstable situation in the world, the author of the program provides a version that is not limited in time.

Version of WSJT -X_V2.6.2 - Public output release

Update version 2.6.2 of April 20, 2023 (works on wsjt-x and wsjtx_improved)

1) a new function «CQ: Min dB»: When CQs call, an automatic response to the station with the weakest signal will occur. With very late decoding, it may not always work. However, this is probably not so bad, because very late decoders are sometimes of dubious quality.
2) also some improvements in the “CQ: Max dB” function. Now it is guaranteed that the assessment in DB used for the selection process is correctly reset after QSO or any manual interaction with the user.

  • both for “CQ: Min dB”, and for “CQ: Max dB» Each manual press of the "Halt Tx" button now resets the dB estimate and also clears the DX Call field (which is required for the next QSO). The same happens when logging a QSO. Pressing the "Enable Tx" button while it is active also resets the dB estimate, but does not clear the DX Call field. Thanks to these changes, two functions “CQ: ...” can be used more intuitively.
    3) the function of the function of the sound “notification” (only versions of Plus) is optimized:
  • Especially in Windows, the reproduction of sound files has now become noticeably more smooth and requires less resources.
  • The sounds of notification are now also reproduced correctly during late decoding.

2.6.2_improved выпуск wsjt-x from April 14, 2023 (GA ReleaSE 2023-04-14):

WSJT-X_V2.6.2 is a public version (GA), designed exclusively for users WSJT-X_Improved. starting with version 2.6.1, the following improvements and errors are made: it includes:

1) The best compatibility with MSHV and Fox stations operating in the wrong time interval:

  • Hound mode's AutoSeq can now correctly handle QSOs when another station uses MSHV multi-wind mode instead of F/H.
  • It's now possible to work with Fox stations operating in the wrong time slot without exiting Hound mode: after double-clicking such a station, the program temporarily switches the time slot so AutoSeq can complete the QSO.
  • After completing a QSO, as well as in the event of any manual user intervention, WSJT-X_Improved immediately resets the time slot to our F/H protocol. This makes it impossible to accidentally call the Fox station in the wrong time slot.
  • Furthermore, Christo LZ2HV seems to have accepted my proposal that in the future, MSHV will also transmit only even (00/30) when a multi-wind mode is enabled. Thanks to this, we must finally overcome incompatibility. Thanks for the cooperation!
    2) on the "waterfall" widegraзр now you can choose whether you want to display a temporary label or not, and whether it should be located on the left or right.
    3) New feature: show distance and/or azimuth in GRID locator messages: If a station sends a valid locator, WSJT-X_Improved now automatically calculates the distance and the azimouth of the large circle and displays it on the “Range Activity” panel.
    4) the new checkbox “Lease DXCC/Distance/Azimuth” allows you to maintain the DXCC names (or the main prefixes), as well as the distance/azimuth in the form of a leveled table.
    5) two scrolling fields allow you to further adjust the layout window.
  • The first field of the meter sets the number of spaces between a decoded message and the name DXCC (or the main prefix). By default, the value of “1” is set, which means one gap more compared to the WSJT-X standard.
  • The second spinner field sets the number of spaces between the DXCC and the distance/azimuth field. You can increase or decrease the default number.
  • The first spinner field also works when the "Align DXCC/Distance/Azimuth" checkbox is unchecked.
It can be used to increase the spacing between decoded messages and DXCC names. I programmed this because the number of stations with non-standard callsigns has increased significantly, and a little more space might be appropriate.
    6) the horizontal position of the window band Activity is now remembered. This allows the distance/azimuth field to scroll on small screens and maintains this situation even when new decoders are received.
    7) The help menu has been updated with hyperlinks to the wsjt-x_improved home page and to the "Additional Features of wsjt-x_improved" PDF file.
    8) the “show the main prefix instead of the name of the country” now automatically becomes darkened if “show DXCC ...” is not activated, so this function is not applicable.
    9) New option: ALT + double click on the call sign Adds the call sign to the DX call field, but does not include TX, although the “double click on the call is installed on the TX switch”. You can use this option if you want to listen to the station first before starting QSO.
    10) A repeated double click on the call sign now updates its values in DB in the messages TX 2 and TX3.
    11) In the settings, some flags were changed to make them more compact and intuitive. The “show information about the country for all messages” was transferred to the “General” tab and renamed “Show DXCC for all messages”, so the three flags associated with the contents are now located next to each other.
    12) The CTY.Dat file is updated to the "Big CTY" option. This allows, in particular, it is much more accurate to display ITU zones.
    13) Some minor code improvements to make it faster and more reliable.
    14) Correction: Do not switch to TX1 after a double click on the message, unless TX1 is required.
    15) The source code of the version of WSJT-X_Improved PLUS now also compatible with Mac OS.

2.6.1_improved - exclusive version for users of wsjtx_improved

wsjt-x_v2.6.1 Update dated February 18, 2023:

This update is intended exclusively for wsjt-x_i usersmprOved also contains some useful new functions, improvement and correction of errors. Now you can better configure the program:

1) New option: “MSK144/Q65: TX until 73”. She does what she promises the name.
Very useful on VHF/UHF/SHF, it increases the success rate during difficult QSOs.
A maximum of 10 attempts are made before the timeout expires. Use "Wait and Reply" if that's still not enough.
2) “waiting functions” (“expectation and answer” and “expectation and challenge”) can now be turned off. Since in fact there is no reason to disconnect them, they are turned on by default. But several OM requested this option.
3) The “Turn on the program” and “dx-calls” buttons are now painted in yellow, if theoretically certain incoming messages may turn on the transmission. This happens in HOUND mode, as well as with the functions of “waiting and answering” or “waiting and challenge”. Some operating managers requested this security function. To remind them that their ATU or PA should be included. Click with the right mouse button button DX Call, to clear the field DX CaLL and thus completely turn off TX. Experienced users are not particularly needed by such yellow coloring, so they can be disabled using "disable TX warnings."
4) If the callivery field DX contains the text, and then the “Create standard messages” is pressed, now TX1 is automatically selected (or TX2 if TX1 is disconnected). This will save one click, and you can immediately start QSO (transmission).

Below are changes in the version of WSJTX 2.6.0 in relation to WSJTX 2.5.4+repack-1 from the Linux repository

Description of the WSJTX program version 2.5.4 from Linux

Home page:https: // Physical.princeton.edu/pulsar/k1jt/wsjtx.htmL..
Description-RU: weakness of amateur radio communications
WSJT-X implements protocols or “modes” of amateur radio communications called FST4, FST4W, FT4, FT8, JT4, JT9, JT65, Q65, MSK144 and WSPR, as well as the ECHO mode for detecting and measuring its own radio signals reflected from the moon. All these modes were designed to conduct reliable, confirmed by QSO in an extremely weak signal.
.
JT4, JT9 and JT65 use an almost identical message structure and initial coding (effective compression of standard messages used for minimal QSO). They use 60-second T/R sequences synchronized with UTC. JT4 and JT65 were intended for EME (reflection of "Earth-Moon-Earth") in the ranges of sheepskin and microwave/microwaves. JT9 is optimized for the AC and HF ranges. It is approximately 2 dB sensitive than JT65, using less than 10% of the passage strip. Q65 offers subcarries with a wide range of T/R sequences and intervals between tones.
.
FT4 and FT8 are functionally similar, but use T/R cycles only 7.5 and 15 C, respectively. MSK144 is designed for meteor scattering on the range of sheepskin coats.
These modes offer expanded messages with support for non -standard callsigns and some popular competitions.
.
FST4 and FST4W are designed specifically for LF and MF ranges. In these ranges, their fundamental sensitivity is better than in other WSJT-X modes with the same length of the sequence, approaching the theoretical limits of the information transfer speed. FST4 is optimized for bilateral connections, and FST4W
For quasi-musical transmission of messages in the style of WSPR. FST4 and FST4W do not require strict independent synchronization of time and phase synchronization, as in such modes as Ebnaut.
.
The WSPR mode is implemented by a protocol designed to check potential routes using low -energy programs. WSPR is fully implemented in WSJT-X, including the programmable "switching of the ranges".

New in version 2.6.0 (from Descriptions)

Update dated November 29, 2022: combined with the official source code WSJT-X 2.6.0-RC5, which contains a number of improvements, as well as corrections of some errors.

In the WSJT-X program:
1) improved calibration for estimates SNR FST4/W.
2) Loading FST4W-900 spots in WSprnet with the TR 15 code instead of 16.
3) FT8 decoding on crowded ranges is improved.
4) the operating frequency table now offers the following options:

  • Improved processing of more than one frequency in each range.
  • Install the preferred frequencies, WSJT-X always returns to these QRG when changing the band or mode.
  • You can mark your frequencies with descriptions (for example, DXp AB0YXZ).
  • The ability to set the date/start and end time so that the frequencies automatically appear and disappear. Useful for contestations and DX expeditions QRG.
  • Download the frequency table from the file to easily get all such data.
    5) In Fox mode, there are now several additional functions that allow operators to respond even better to various QSO situations:
  • The new table of two columns on the tab 2 provides the best overview of the queue and call sign, in which QSO are held.
  • The FOX operator can now change the order of the call sign in line so that he can react if there is only a narrow temporary interval for a certain QSO due to distribution.
  • Now Fox is responsible for two more cycles at the station, which has not been received, which increases the likelihood of the success of complex QSO.
  • Fixed an error in Hound mode, which sometimes prevented the completion of connections with non -standard callsigns.
    6) improvements in EME Echo:
  • The new AVG control element sets the amount of the average echo cycles.
  • a new opportunity to display the measurements of the power of broadband noise as a function of time. This can be useful for measuring sun noise, tracking errors for antenna, etc.
    7) several small errors
    8) Fixed a bug due to which WSJT-X was not always correctly initialized when the special modes of activity are turned on.
    9) Fixed an error that led to the record of the wrong transmission frequencies in All.txt.
    10) the graphic interface was improved relative to some details. Management elements are now better scaled with different font size and in different operating systems.
    11) When you are in Hound mode and press the “H” button again, the frequency is now saved. This gives the user the following two options for returning to the usual FT8 mode:
  • Press the "H" button again. This will keep you in QRG mode.
  • Press the "FT8" button (or use the "Settings" menu). This will return you to the default QRG FT8 frequency.
    12) decoding (with low reliability - a translator note), marked as “A7”, are now disconnected if the “enable“ turn on the AP ”is not installed, as well as during the first period after changing the range.
    13) The network address of the UDP server is now checked for the availability of errors before use.
    14) some improvements in the interface dx lab Suite Commander.
    15) Correct some possible mistakes that could cause segmentation errors in certain unusual situations.
    16) the warnings about the loss of sound are currently disconnected, since the detection was not reliable enough.
    17) A long-standing error was fixed, due to which the “transmission of digital amplification” appeared on the screen somewhere on the screen.
    18) “Selecting DX-Zovzov” now works when another station <...>
    19) CQ messages without a square are now sent to the PSK reporter.
    20) several other small corrections (tips, etc.).

New versions of 2.6.0 exclusively for WSJT-X_Improved:

1) Click with the right button on the DX C buttonall now deletes DX Call and DX Grid records.
2) Now you can let the “Watch” button behave like in JTDX:

  • Left-click to Clear the activity window.
  • Right-click to Clear the reception frequency window.
  • Double-click to Clear both windows (no changes).
Turn on this new “alternative behavior of the Washing button” in the “Settings” menu, by default, all the same as in WSJT-X.
    3) A new option has been added to display the names of countries in all messages. It can be turned on on the settings tab-> colors.
    4) Now the return countdown of the trim setting Tune settings is displayed (as is the case with JTDX). Remember that the Tune patrol timer can be disabled if necessary. But he protects your transceiver!
    5) To make it easier for you to start working with the new capabilities of the frequency work table in WSJT-X_Improved already there is a table that also contains standard QRG DX expeditions for FT8, and QRG is set as preference by default. To switch to this table, click it with the right mouse button and select “drop”.
    6) when the option “Call with the individual name of the Contest” is marked, the name of the concesse is now automatically added to the “Comments” field when registering QSO.
    7) Now you can add your comments to the comment list and choose various entries from the field with the list. It is useful if you want to register your QSO with repeating information, such as “Rig 1”, “Antenna 2”, “QRP”, “Long Pass”, etc.
    8) DX-oriented decoder ft4 settings.
    9) Adaptation of my “improved” FT8 decoder settings to the updated WSJT-X FT8 decoder. This leads to an increase in the number of decoders and a decrease in the number of false decoders in some situations.
    10) the FALSE Decodes Reduction (FDR) option to reduce the number of false decoders was simplified and again became optional, since now it is needed less often.
    11) For the first time, the author created a special version of the interface for Fox operators. It has an additional “F” button to turn on/off the Fox mode. In the future, new functions will be implemented here, especially useful for Fox operators.
    12) in versions WSJT-X_Improved operator Fox is now notified when the second DX expedition works at the same frequency.

Note: In connection with the politically unstable situation in the world, version 2.6 is unlimited by the time of use.

Version 2.6.0 exclusively for WSJT-X_Improved: Update from 07.10.2022:

This update is exclusive for wsjt-x_i usersmprOved and contains some new functions, improvement of performance, as well as error corrections:
1) Dark style: Now you can turn on and turn off the dark theme right in the main window. Just click on the new item “Use the Dark Style” in the “View” menu.
This switch does not just restart wsjtx.exe with the parameter -Stylesheet:/QDarkstyle/Style.qss . In addition, he sets up some internal settings and uses an optimized table for a dark style. If you turned on the dark style, you should configure the color scheme of backlighting towards pastel colors. Go to “ Settings ” to “ Colors ” and configure the background color in accordance with your needs.
2) auto -consuming is now automatically turned on when switching into a mode in which it is available (FT8, FT4, Q65, MSK144 and FST4).
3) Wait and Answer: "Wait and Answer" and "Wait and Call" are small auxiliary features that help you end a QSO more intelligently than constantly calling when the other station doesn't answer or temporarily disappears due to QSB. As long as you have the other station's callsign in the DX Call field, the Wait and Call feature will attempt to continue the QSO when the station finally responds to your call. It also guarantees that the second RR73 will be sent when another station cannot copy your first call. Wait and Answer are automatically enabled for modes in which Auto SEQ is available.
4) Wait and Call: In situations where QSB is so strong that the other station disappears for an extended period of time, the Wait and Call feature can help. When enabled, this feature will call another station up to three times when they reappear on the frequency band with a message containing "CQ," "73," or "RRR." To enable the "Wait and Call" feature, press the new DX Call button. Wait and Call requires a valid callsign in the DX Call field (i.e., the callsign of the station you are QSOing with) and Auto Seq enabled. Any manual intervention, such as pressing the "HaLT TX" or "Stop" button, will immediately cancel the wait and call, which in any case will give you full control over your QSO.

  • "CQ: First" is now also available with MSK144.
    5) the author found a way to even reduce the minimum graphic interface size WSJT-X_Improved_AL. Thus, version AL (Alternative Layout) Now it should work on small screens up to 640 pixels high.
    6) Automatic geometry AL GUI is optimized. The graphic interface “AL” best works with fonts from 8 to 11 points and is now a graphic interface for small screens.
    7) Fixed an error due to which incorrect transmission frequencies could be recorded in All.txt.
    8) optimization of some internal algorithms to increase productivity.
    9) update to HamLib 4.5_2022-10-02.
    10) And the last, but no less important: a new list of newsletter WSJT-X-Improved-community has appeared, where you can discuss all topics of wsjt-x improved and where you/we can all try to help each other. To subscribe, go to the next page: https: // sourceforge.net/projects/wsjt-x-improved/lists/wsjt-x-improved-community. In the future, the author plans to use this list of mailings for updates.

Note: In connection with the politically unstable situation in the world, the author immediately offers an unlimited version of the time.
