Noctilucent clouds over St. Petersburg July 14, 2020

No one knows for sure the origin of noctilucent clouds. They are located at a high altitude of 80 km in a layer of the atmosphere called the mesosphere. These days, July 12-14, 2020, they turned out to be especially bright.

Many radio amateurs assume that the presence of noctilucent clouds is somehow related to the Es passage of radio waves. Others simply consider them a beautiful natural phenomenon.
