>> I didn't see the war

The photographs were taken by me next to the memorial to the heroic defenders of Leningrad from the Nazi invaders in Ligovo (the area is also known as Uritsk), next to the former Rubezh cinema on May 9, 2022.

Red Army soldiers who stopped the enemy at the cost of their own lives on the outskirts of our city are buried in a mass grave. In total, 1008 Red Army soldiers are buried here, at the Ligovo military cemetery.

Under the USSR, here was the north with tall poplars, green lawns, a memorial sign -obelisk.
Only in 2003-2004, here, at the burial site, were vertical slabs of black granite with the names and surnames of the fallen defenders of Leningrad placed. My grandfather was involved in compiling lists of soldiers for engraving plates: he fought with the Nazis in the Ulyanka region. My grandfather died in May 2005, but managed to see the result of his work.

In 2020-21, a new monument was erected next to the memorial: a five-pointed star spread out on the ground and an eternal flame in its center. The entire area around the eternal flame is covered with gray granite; along the perimeter of the square, real cannons and anti-aircraft guns of that time, 1941-1945, are installed on low pedestals.

I wholeheartedly thank our grandfathers and the entire Soviet people for their feat and the Great Victory in the war of 1941-1945!
