Good signal propagation in the high frequency bands of 18 and 21 MHz

12 March 2022 11:29

In the morning I turned on the transceiver - on 18 MHz there were many stations from the Russian Far East and Japan.

Established radio communication in FT8 with a radio station R0UO, from square OO90 - Russian Federation, Far East near China.
The distance between is almost 5300 km, the propagation of radio waves did not occur without a double jump.

I received -19 dB, and I received -8 dB. QSB from -10 to -20 dB was noticeable.

<call:4>R0UO <gridsquare:4>OO90 <mode:3>FT8 <rst_sent:3>-19 <rst_rcvd:3>-08 <qso_date:8>20220312 <time_on:6>073215 <qso_date_off:8>20220312 <time_off:6>073315 <band:3>17m <freq:9>18.101664 <station_callsign:6>RA1AHQ <my_gridsquare:6>KO59CT <tx_pwr:2>10 <eor>

Then, in the 21 MHz range, he made radio contact with RZ0SW from a square OO13- distance 4300 km.
I received at +2 dB, I was heard at -15 dB.

<call:5>RZ0SW <gridsquare:4>OO13 <mode:3>FT8 <rst_sent:3>+02 <rst_rcvd:3>-15 <qso_date:8>20220312 <time_on:6>074145 <qso_date_off:8>20220312 <time_off:6>074245 <band:3>15m <freq:9>21.075062 <station_callsign:6>RA1AHQ <my_gridsquare:6>KO59CT <tx_pwr:2>10 <eor>

Power 50 W, GP antenna - fishing rod from the balcony.
Of course, in SSB you can't hear distant stations as confidently as in digital.

The distance is calculated in the program QTH Locator Toolkit for Android:
