PI4 - digital mode for VHF beacons

3 March 2021 14:33

Since 2018, the standard for transmitting signals from amateur radio VHF beacons using 4 tones has taken root in the world - the so-called PI4.

In addition to transmitting the digital sequence, the beacon transmits the carrier and CW call sign.
The program for receiving "PI RX" exists for Windows and Linux, available at the link above.

For example, the lighthouse closest to St. Petersburg RB1CA works in mode PI4 at frequency 144.420 from QTH locator KP51BA (city Priozersk). Works continuously.

The beacon antenna is a 3-element square from R-Quad at 144 MHz, directed to the southeast. Transmitter power 5W, installation height 35 meters above ground level, 24 meters above ground level.
