Museum-Reserve "Gatchina" - часть 2

In the first part, I took a very brief look at the history of the park "Gatchina". Now I would like to dwell on the development of agriculture and industry in Gatchina. Because on April 5, 2021, Gatchina became the capital of the Leningrad region.

Industrial zones of Gatchina

If you drive along the Kievskoye highway from the south towards St. Petersburg, you can see how all sides of Gatchina are spread out fields and small villages are located - Novye Chernitsy, Lyadino, Vakkolovo. On the right side of the Kievskoye highway, agricultural land is visible.

In the village of Bolshiye Kolpany, the main, bypass highway to St. Petersburg goes sharply to the right. On the left side, there is the old entrance to Gatchina, which is called Kievskoye Highway - an old and narrow road that turns into Kievskaya Street in the city of Gatchina and then into October 25 Avenue. (No one travels to St. Petersburg in this way, through Gatchina, for fear of numerous traffic jams).

To the west of the Kievskoye highway, in the village of Bolshie Kolpany, there is the first industrial zone (Industrial Zone-1, 2):

  • Production Company "Voskhod" ("Sunrise").

In the village of Malye Kolpany industrial zone:

  • Feed mill - "Gatchina Feed Mill" - food for dogs, cats, fish, birds.
  • Factory "Megaprofile" Ltd.
  • Corporation "AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY" (tractors)

A little to the north is the district "Rechnoe" - near the Kolpinskaya River and the historical district Hare heddle.

Near the remise, to the west of Kievskaya Street, there used to be an airfield - the first airfield in Russia (1911). Now this area "Aerodrome" it is built up with standard residential buildings. As a reminder, only a monument remained - a MiG-21 fighter taking off.

On the right side, at the entrance to Gatchina from the south, there is a green area - Priory Park. The area is called Aleksandrovskaya Sloboda. To the east of the Priory Park is the Varshavsky railway station.

To the north of the Warsaw Railway Station, to the east of Sylvia Park, is the center of Gatchina - historical buildings with a height of 4 floors, on the east side of 25th October Avenue. Obviously, the buildings were built during the restoration of the city after the war. On the easternmost outskirts, you can see more modern buildings built during the Brezhnev era (1970s) - several nine-story buildings up to the railway and Chekhov Street. To the east, behind the railway, begins the industrial zone No1, which was also built after the war.

On Sobornaya Street there is a market in the city of Gatchina. (Place on the Google Maps). Cathedral of St. Paul the Apostle - address Sobornaya St., 26. To the north of this area is the Gatchina Institute of Economics, Finance, Law and Technology - GIEFPT.

Gatchina's Main Park - Sylvia Palace Park and forest park Menagerie are located across 25 October Avenue, in the western part of Gatchina, next to the Baltic Railway Station. The nearest stop to Gatchina on the Baltic railway line is Marienburg.

Almost 90,000 inhabitants live in Gatchina and most of them are employed in enterprises located nearby in the industrial zone of Gatchina:

Agriculture and light industry of the Gatchina region were reduced

The Leningrad Region was formed in 1927 and initially existed as a rural agrarian region. The main peasant activity is crop production. Later, the Leningrad Region began to develop animal husbandry. During "perestroika" and after the collapse of the USSR, agricultural enterprises created in Soviet times went bankrupt.

(A complete list of closed collective farms and state farms is contained in the archives "United Archival Fund "Liquidated Trade Organizations of the Gatchina District of the Leningrad Region", some of the information is available on Google).

Animal husbandry has become the main specialization of the Leningrad region - it accounts for 68% of the gross output.

A real disaster of the Gatchina district was the thickets of a poisonous weed - Sosnovsky's hogweed in the places of former fields and in ditches. They fight hogweed.
Typical views of nature from the Kiev highway (E95) and the surrounding area (c) Google:

To date, there are 22 agricultural enterprises in the district - mainly livestock, including 7 farms for milk production. There are breeding farms for cattle breeding. Pig breeding is represented by JSC "Breeding plant "Plamya"" (the number of pigs is 8.0 thousand heads), in connection with the bankruptcy of the enterprises JSC "Novy Svet" and LLC "Rusbelgo", the number of pigs was reduced by 22.0 thousand heads. There are several poultry farms near Gatchina. For example, in the village of Pudost, Novaya Street, 49 there is a poultry farm "Skvoritsy" ("Starlings") - в 2012 declared bankrupt.

There are also successful poultry farms -"Lenoblptitseprom" website. and LLC "Perepelochka" ("Quail") in Tervolovo. In the village of Pizhma - a farm "Ferma+" (guinea fowl egg).

Another example of a successful food production enterprise is the Galaktika dairy plant. This is a fully automated plant where many types of dairy products are produced under the brands "Bolshaya Kruzhka" ("Big mug"), "Sudarynya" ("Madam") and "Svezhe" ("Fresh"). Also, this dairy produces Valio yogurts and smoothies. Opened in 2008, the original owner is the Finnish concern Valio and the regional "Lenoblmoloko" (55% of shares). However, recently "Galaktika" ("Galaxy") seeking of a new investor.

Light industry

As of 05/25/2021, the private Gatchina Knitting Factory (GTF) is operating, TIN 7737008974 - the list number of employees is 7 people, revenue 2.2 million rubles.

For unknown reasons, our industry is included in the category of the most risky. This makes it difficult to lend to the industry. Most businesses are experiencing problems with lending, especially those that work with chains. Banks are now lending to the industry not only not cheaply, but also reluctantly.
