January 3, 2023, against the backdrop of frost -24 degrees, there was a loss of “ice needles” - ice crystals formed at high altitude, playing in sunlight with all colors of the rainbow.

Lane needles, unlike perhegelia hang not on the horizon, but near the observer. The photo is not visible, but they are a stream of small "sparks" - ice crystals descending from the sky. It is difficult to determine the distance to the flow by view of 2 to 100 meters (individual crystals are visible). That is, sometimes there is a feeling that you can touch the “rain” from the rain crystals. Indeed, on objects, for example, on a glass, ice crystals lie in the form of a thin powder - powder. The intensity in various places is different, according to my observations, to explore crystals of about 10 km 2 </ Sup> i.e. They fall out locally and see them only a few times in their life, in the most severe frosts. Today in St. Petersburg, a record of negative temperature minus 24 degrees Celsius during the day can be broken.
