Recording of a communication session with the ISS on April 6, 2021

6 April 2021 20:19

Cosmonaut Sergei Kud-Sverchkov from aboard the International Space Station (ISS) answered questions from schoolchildren from Kaluga.

The recording was made in St. Petersburg on 05/06/2021 on a balcony 3-element antenna of fixed elevation and azimuth, directed to the south.

Every 15 seconds, the Doppler effect was corrected using a computer. Frequency 145.800 +- 3 kHz.
Receiver - Yaesu FT-857D, controlled using a CAT interface (CT-61), and the Gpredict program for Linux OS.
See more details.article about Doppler effect correction using Gpredict on this site.

Из 10 minutes of orbit in good quality turned out to be 3. The lack of tracking of the station’s movement in azimuth and dense urban development affected it.

Cosmonaut Sergei Kud-Sverchkov, who is on the ISS, spoke about what weightlessness can be compared to, how to become an astronaut, and what qualities are needed for this. To the question “why do we need space and space research,” Sergei cited a quote from scientist K.E. Tsiolkovsky that “humanity cannot live forever in a cradle.” But cosmonaut Sergei Kud-Sverchkov noted that training the future crew for space flight is a complex and long program; a base in the form of higher or flight education and special training in Star City is needed for “five to ten years.”
