A trip to Vysotsk

Previously, about 10-15 years ago, our whole family went on vacation to the islands near Vyborg, using Vysotsk as an intermediate point for transferring by boat to the Ostrovok recreation center. Now we don’t go to the base, because... she has owner changed. Therefore, I decided to visit the city of Vysotsk itself to remember how it was, just like that.

The city of Vysotsk is located on the coast of the Gulf of Finland in the bay of the city of Vyborg. It is used as port and transshipment hub lukoil company to send oil by tankers. A little further north is a residential area based on the site of the city of Uuras. (The Finns left home after the “Winter War” of 1939).

In my opinion, the city of Vysotsk has changed for the better over the decade and has become one of the cleanest and most well-groomed. All asphalt roads have been repaired, flowers have been planted in flower beds everywhere. The houses are also newly painted. There are many children and teenagers, which means the city is not going to die out, like many small settlements near large cities (urbanization).

Also, Vysotsk has become a favorite place for fishermen who go out into the bay in rubber boats. Since it is located on a peninsula in Vyborg Bay. There is both a northern beach - towards the island of Maly Vysotsky and Krepysh, and a southern bay and beach - towards Vyborg. Both beaches have parking for cars, and at the central pier there is a cafe in the form of a round glass gazebo.

Next to the main pier there is a memorial in memory of Soviet soldiers from the landing force, which in 1944 was landed in Vysotsk with the aim of driving the Nazis out of the city. On the monument are the following words: “In memory of the landing on the islands of the Vyborg Bay on July 4-6, 1944. 59th Army. 185th Infantry Regiment 224 SD, 406th Infantry Regiment 124 SD, 622 Infantry Regiment 124 SD, Red Banner Baltic Fleet, 13th Air Army. No one is forgotten and nothing is forgotten. 1944 - 2004". According to information from reference books, published on the Internet, Vysotsk was occupied by Finnish and Nazi troops on August 26, 1941, liberated by the Red Army on June 27, 1944. See Wikipedia for more details.Vyborg-Petrozavodsk operation.
