About choosing a USB flash manufacturer to create a bootable Live USB

27 December 2024 17:05

Two flash drives from the same manufacturer, purchased in different stores, behave differently.

A pattern has been discovered: booting a PC from USB Flash depends on the manufacturer.

1) An orange 16 GB Smartbuy flash drive was purchased from DNS (USB Flash 16 GB Smartbuy Glossy SB16GBGS-Or price 599 rub.)
2) A green 16 GB flash drive of the same brand Smartbuy was purchased on Ozon, the same brand and volume - 16 GB USB Smartbuy Glossy series green.

The same Linix distribution (antiX runit 23.2 x64) is written to both flash drives using the same live-usb-maker.
The orange flash drive works when loading BIOS and UEFI, but the green one is not detected in the PC BIOS and does not boot. Works only in UEFI.

Diagnostics revealed the following differences between USB Flash.
